If you can appreciate a fine classic, then the aesthetic of these Wolverine Addison 100 Mile wingtip boots will rather be hard to resist. Double row-toe stitching adds a beautiful brogue detail making these essential to any fashionable gentleman’s footwear collection.
For the exterior of these boots, Wolverine has parented up with the best of the best, Horween Leather Company. Founded in 1905, the leather company has over 100 years and 5 generations behind perfecting the world’s finest leather. History aside, each Addison boot features a hand-rubbed finish with a Horween Chromexcel leather upper.
What makes Chromexcel so desirable is its rich pull up properties in full aniline, hand rubbed finishes. As the boot moves, creases and ages, the leather’s oil is released to lighten up these areas in a stunning, yet, subtle manner. The end result is a patina that gives each boot a unique character, instead of a trashed and worn look. Best of all, a brushing can often bring back oils and restore away scratches and nicks. (For conditioning Neatsfoot Oil can be used.)
While Chromoexcel on its own offers plenty to love, the process is one so painstakingly difficult it’s hard not to also appreciate it. It takes 89 separate processes, 28 working days and all 5 floors of the Horween Leather Company factory to produce it.
Finish aside, you’ll find the Wolverine Addison 1000 Mile Wingtip boots feature a Goodyear Welt construction, leather outsole, and leather footbed. Of course, there’s also a stacked leather heel. While some prefer a leather outsole, I understand that others don’t. If a rubber outsole if what you’re after, consider the Evans boot, Courtland 1000 mile or perhaps a custom pair.
When it comes to fit, sizes run about 0.5 larger than I expected. In terms of break-in, the process is rather quick and will depend on how the leather conforms to your feet. For out of the box comfort, these boots are exceptional.
