Held annually in Indio, California, Coachella draws music fans from around the world who come to experience the festival’s vibrant and energetic atmosphere. It’s also a time when people get their fashion on and wear their best outfits hoping to impress everyone with their fit.

Although the second weekend is about to kick off, one thing is for sure – it’s never too early to start putting your looks together for the next Coachella music festival. You need to have your outfits on point and Instagram-ready. You never know who you’ll run into at the infamous concert in the Southern California desert…

The 61 Best Coachella Outfits Men Can Wear This Weekend

1. Boho Top and Shorts

This is a pretty easy look to pull off because it works on everybody. Temperatures can be pretty sweltering in the desert sun, so shorts are a good go-to for the daytime. Keeping them light in color not only detracts from heat but also makes it easier to match with brightly colored boho shirts. Having a button up short sleeve shirt allows you to keep it closed for sun protection or open a few buttons to feel the desert heat on your skin.

Keeping your Coachella outfit light and tonal in color is another great way to beat the heat. Camouflage yourself with your desert surroundings with white, cream, and khaki. Linen is a great fabric for staying and looking cool. At the very least, a linen scarf wrapped loosely around your neck will help with sun protection.

2. Flowy Top and Distressed Jeans

Personally, I don’t wear shorts, no matter the temperature. And distressed jeans are perfect for that rock-n-roll casual vibe without looking like you’re trying too hard. Throw on a flowy button up shirt and aviator sunglasses and let the good times roll! Black or denim jeans won’t show as much dirt since you will be exposed to the elements of nature, but white is always a good option for a lighter, more casual vibe.

Unbutton your shirt if you’re trying to show off your summer body. Just don’t forget about sunscreen! If you’re still in winter fluff mode, just keep a few at the top unbuttoned and enjoy the safety and protection from the sun and prying eyes.

Sneakers or boots are my recommendations for every outfit when it comes to festivals and concerts in general. There are plenty of people, a lot of dirt, too much sun, and frankly, flip-flops or sandals can really take a perfectly planned outfit down a few notches, especially when you’re in distressed jeans mode. Kick up the badass factor with a pair of Dr. Martens, Timberlands, or your favorite pair of broken-in Air Force 1s.

3. Flowy Top and Pants

Here’s a chance to show off a little more style. A pair of plaid pants with an easy-breezy long sleeve flowy button up, with the sleeves rolled up, is great for the evenings when the nighttime desert temperatures start to cool down.

Fitted flat-front khakis, gray chinos, or even navy pants, rolled at the cuff and worn with a short sleeve button up are always a great option. Wear the shirt fitted as well to show off the arms that you’ve been working hard for. Not there yet? No worries, you have a year to get in better shape if that’s what you’re after. If not, then when it comes to shirts, the more flowy the better. You can always wear your shirt unbuttoned over a t-shirt. Just don’t wear the t-shirt of the band you’re getting ready to go see. That’s a rookie mistake, my friend.

Take the same shirts you styled with your distressed jeans or pants and pair them with the shorts you wore with your bohotop. Throw on a brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sneakers, and you have just re-purposed an outfit. Congratulations.

5. Hawaiian Shirt and Pants

Take your favorite Hawaiian shirt. Pair it with your favorite pants. Done. Ok, ok, here’s a little more styling help: pair white jeans or pants (dealer’s choice) with a white v-neck t-shirt. Then wear your Hawaiian shirt unbuttoned over it to pull the look together. This will keep you from looking like you’re attending a Labor Day party and trying to wear all your white clothing at once before fall.

Another simple way to wear this shirt is with jeans. Distressed or not, a bright red, blue, yellow, or orange Hawaiian shirt pairs perfectly with basic denim. Again, a pair or closed-toe shoes or boots is the way to go in an outdoor festival environment.

6. Hawaiian Shirts and Shorts

Remember wearing your Hawaiian shirt open over a white v-neck t-shirt and white pants? Replace the pants with the same white shorts you wore earlier with your boho shirt, and voilà, you have used clothes you brought for multiple purposes. This is under the assumption your white clothes didn’t get filthy and sweaty the first time you wore them. And honestly, even if they did, the rules are different at a festival. Normal social constructs do not apply in this world – at least with hygiene and fashion.

7. Open Shirt and Pants

You’ve already worn versions of this outfit multiple times. Your biggest decision is whether you wear a shirt underneath the open button up or not. That is up to you. An in-shape body is a dime a dozen when Los Angeles is so close, but the truth of the matter is, confidence is everything. Rock your dad bod. No judgment. At least not from me. Have you seen some of the outfits and bodies at this festival? Trust me, you look great.

9. Sleeveless Tops and Pants

Let’s call a sleeveless top what it really is – a tank top, which, in the hot desert sun, might be the perfect shirt to keep you cool. A black sleeveless top with black distressed skinny jeans, a pair of classic black Vans, and a red bandana around your neck is simple, yet stylish. Wear a long sleeve plaid button up or flannel around your waist to throw on when the cooler weather of night starts to roll in.

10. Sleeveless Tops and Shorts

The shorts you have repurposed multiple times need to be put away. Time for fresh, clean shorts. A longer pair of denim shorts, cuffed and rolled at the knee, matches literally any sleeveless shirt you want to pair them with. A high-top sneaker looks especially good with this style of shorts. Throw on a short sleeve open shirt on top and a pair of sunglasses and you’re ready to travel effortlessly from stage to stage to see your favorite musical acts.

11. T-shirt and Shorts Outfit

Brighten up your day and have fun with a simple yellow t-shirt and matching yellow shorts. Bonus points if your shorts have miniature embroidered shapes on them. Throw a belt bag over your chest to break up the color. Or choose to keep it simple and just throw on any t-shirt and any shorts. They don’t even have to match. It’s Coachella. Either people don’t care about what you’re wearing at all or they care too much. And who cares what they think? You do you and have fun with it!

The best part about festival fashion is being able to mix-n-match. Using the same few pieces in different ways to create entirely new looks means less packing for you and just makes life easier. Pre-planning your looks also takes the guesswork out of getting dressed when you’ve been in the sun and the heat for multiple days.

Adding a hat and a scarf or bandana around your neck will help protect you from the sun, which, as I’ve mentioned repeatedly, is very, very hot. Even in April. If this is your first time at a Coachella festival, buckle up, buttercup! These are memories you will not soon forget unless you just don’t remember them to begin with!

28 Color Ties To Match With a Grey Suit https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/what-color-tie-with-grey-suit/ Sun, 02 Jan 2022 18:00:16 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=252044 …]]> A grey suit is a perfect alternative for a black suit when it comes to just about any kind of event, including business meetings, happy hours, cocktail parties, weddings, and upscale sporting events. Wearing a black suit is never the wrong answer, but a grey version is less predictable and just a little bit cooler. Grey works for all seasons with lighter shades feeling a bit more summery and darker variants working well in the winter months.

Grey is versatile, working with a multitude of colors, patterns, and fabrics. Wearing accessories is the perfect way to liven up your look. Bringing in a pocket square, lapel pin, or dress watch is a great way to bring your whole look together. Anything metallic, such as lapel pins, tie clips, and cufflinks is another way to implement extra style into your overall look. Silver and white gold tend to look better with the cool grey tones, but that doesn’t mean that gold can’t also work if done right.

Wearing a tie is also a great way to spice things up, But what color? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. Here is some colored tie inspiration to help you look your best.

1. Black

Awesome Light Grey Suit Styles For Men

Peanut butter and jelly, Sonny and Cher, black and grey… these all great combinations for a reason. They just work. A black tie looks good against the backdrop of a black button-down against your favorite grey suit. You can stick with a simple black silk tie or jazz it up with black-on-black embossing.

2. Black and White

Houndstooth and plaid and zig-zags, oh my! If you’re wanting to stay in the same color palette but a solid black tie feels a little too dark, pop on a black and white tie in various patterns to give your look more life while still keeping things tonal. A classic black brogue or monk strap shoe works well when you need to dress it up a bit more, but a white low top sneaker will take your smart casual dressing to a new level.

3. Blue

You can keep your look smart and casual by pairing a striped lighter grey suit and white Oxford shirt with a casual knit tie in navy. If you’re feeling a little fancy, add a festive sock and white low top sneakers. To dress it up, change out your shoes for a brown loafer or chestnut bespoke brogue shoe and add a pocket square with navy edging that matches your tie.

4. Bold Colors

If you want to rock a grey suit and you need a pop of color, why not choose a bold one? Cobalt blue, emerald green, red, pink, metallics… choose your poison. Some of these will look better with a light grey suit, while other hues will work with darker grey. When working with a bold color let your tie do the talking and keep the rest of your look as simple as possible.

5. Brown

Grey and brown? Doesn’t immediately sound like those two colors necessarily go hand-in-hand but a light charcoal three-piece suit with a medium-brown, tan, or cognac cap-toe Oxford shoe and a matching brown patterned tie will have you looking dapper for your next event.

6. Darker

Darker Tie With Grey Suit -andresdena

The darker the tie, the lighter the suit and the shirt should be. A dark tie will stand out against a light grey or white shirt. Correlate the color of your tie with your socks or pocket square. A darker tie tends to look better with a darker brown or black shoe against the background of the lighter suit.

7. Gold

grey-suit-gold-tie

Although tonally, grey and silver are in the same family, that doesn’t mean that gold doesn’t also work. Wearing a standard white or black button-up and mixing in brown tones and gold accessories will bring this look to fruition and have you in contention for best dressed.

8. Green

Green works on a multitude of levels. Sage green looks great with light, medium, and charcoal grey suits. Extra points if your suit has a pattern. Forest green looks best with a lighter grey while emerald green gives a darker grey suit some much needed depth.

9. Grey

grey-suit-grey-tie

Grey on grey on grey on grey. Mixing tones keeps it classy and not boring. Do you have a darker charcoal suit? Pair a lighter grey button-up with a silvery grey patterned tie and black or white kicks. If you still want to mix it up, choose a tie or pocket square with a mix of greys or that has a hint of green, pink, or red.

10. Maroon or Red

Maroon or Red Tie With Grey Suit -sartorialwatchmaker

Pairing a red tie with a grey suit can be a powerful statement. However, getting the right shade of red is the tricky part. Avoid brighter reds and lean more towards deeper red tones and burgundies. Think about pairing a lighter grey suit with a sky blue button up and a maroon tie, preferably with a pattern.

11. Multi-color

Multicolor Tie With Grey Suit -akinarishoji

Multicolor Tie With Grey Suit -marius.chestnut

A multi-colored paisley tie with swirls of blues, reds, pinks, purples, and yellows, pairs nicely with a silvery light grey suit. Bonus points if you also wear a vest, either in matching grey or in black. A striped button-up with stripes in either blue and white or pink and white pulls the entire look together and will have everyone giving you a second look as you walk by. They will definitely think you have a personal stylist.

12. Pink

grey-suit-pink-tie

Pixful

Pink and charcoal go together like… well, pink and charcoal! The tie doesn’t have to be solid pink but can have hints of pink within a pattern. Pull in more pink with a pocket square and your socks. This combination works well as a smart casual option for work, especially when worn with clean, white sneakers.

13. Purple

Not into pink? Try purple. A lavender button-up against a medium grey suit and a darker purple tie gives you the look of a distinguished gentleman. If your tie is multi-colored, pull out one of the brighter purple shades to match your socks and throw on some black velvet loafers.

14. Yellow

Louis Vuitton vs. Gucci: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/louis-vuitton-vs-gucci/ Mon, 27 Dec 2021 20:00:28 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=264722 …]]> In 2020, Brand Finance ‘s annual report named Louis Vuitton and Gucci the two most valuable luxury fashion brands.

Each brand has proven its worth not just by longevity but by also increasing its value by more than 20% since 2019. These are just two of the reasons that make them the two most preferred and recognizable brands in the luxury fashion industry.

Regardless of whether these brands are following the latest fashion trends or making the trends, they both are notorious for producing luxury goods that become instant cult classics and are considered collectibles for years, even decades, to come.

Starting from humble beginnings, both of these fashion powerhouses have become two of the best symbols of luxury and fashion for a multitude of reasons. One reason is that they have gotten into the psyche of pop culture by cementing their place in songs, movies, and on the bodies of celebrities.

Kanye West, Lil Pump, Jay-Z, and Nicki Minaj have all referenced these two brands on multiple occasions in their song lyrics and, of course, have worn pieces from both brands more times than we can count. Many models wearing either brand have also graced the covers of fashion magazines worldwide.

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton

Pxhere

Louis Vuitton is the second oldest luxury brand that is still in operation today, known primarily for its luggage and bags with an unpickable lock system.

The brand was named after Louis Vuitton, a fashion designer and businessman born in 1821 in a small village in the eastern part of France. He went to Paris on foot when he was 16 and learned to custom design boxes and, later, trunks.

His reputation as a trunk maker gained popularity as he began using canvas instead of leather to make the trunks not only more durable, but also waterproof. He opened the first Louis Vuitton store in Paris in 1854.

He introduced the rectangular trunk, which was deemed revolutionary for the time because this made it possible for the trunks to be stacked. European trunks in the late 19th century were designed with round or curved tops.

As demand for his rectangular trunks increased, Vuitton moved his workshops northeast of the city where his craftsmen began to develop and build the flat-top luggage cases. Eventually, Vuitton moved his family onto the same property.

In 1896, four years after the death of Vuitton, the company introduced its monogram canvas, the iconic interlocking L and V paired with geometric shapes that we all know and love today.

The company navigated through the 1900s by expanding its trunk business and adding bags into the lineup. The Keepall, which was designed as a big travel bag, was the first LV bag introduced by the company in 1930.

The smaller version, the Speedy, was dropped in 1932 as the first handbag designed for everyday use. Quickly following the release of that bag were the Noé, Alma, and Papillon which remain some of the brand’s most iconic bags today.

In 1959, with the introduction of new technologies, the company reinvented its classic canvas, using it for smaller and more detailed products. They also extended their collection with more categories such as small purses, wallets, and other accessories.

As the new century dawned, and with American fashion designer Marc Jacobs at the helm as Creative Director, the company continued to launch new products, including watches and jewelry. Jacobs also introduced the Monogram Multicolor canvas range as well as the Damier Graphite and Monogram Vernis collections.

Jacobs also led the way for collaborations with other designers as well as helping to gain a stronger celebrity following before he set up his own namesake fashion line. Celebrities, including Bono, Keith Richards, Madonna, Angelina Jolie, and Scarlett Johansson, have all been chosen to become the face of the brand over the last couple of decades.

In 2018, American fashion designer Virgil Abloh was appointed the new artistic director of menswear, ushering in a new era of forward-thinking luxury designs and innovation. Unfortunately, Abloh passed away from a private battle with cancer in November 2021, but not before completing his 2022 Spring/Summer menswear collection which was shown in Miami on November 30th of the same year.

In early 2021, Abloh also tapped Korean celebrities as Louis Vuitton brand ambassadors to ride on the Korean wave, or the increasing popularity of the South Korean culture. Extremely popular Kpop boy band BTS was announced as a global brand ambassador, while model and actress Ho Yeon-jung from the popular series Squid Game was appointed as the new global ambassador for fashion, watches, and jewelry.

The Louis Vuitton brand, now owned by French giant LVMH Moët Hennessy, continues to be one of the most popular luxury brands in the world for a reason. Traveling with Louis Vuitton pieces is the ultimate symbol of luxury and sophistication. The brand continues to create limited edition collections every season, collaborating with celebrities and designers to create more unique items.

Gucci

Gucci

Modaes Latinoamerica

Founded by Guccio Gucci in 1921, this company is one of the oldest Italian fashion brands in operation today.

Gucci was born in 1881 in Florence, Italy. He traveled to London in 1898 and landed a job as a porter at the Savoy Hotel, then the most luxurious hotel in London. With his savings, he went home to Florence to open his first store.

Like Louis Vuitton, Gucci started out as a luggage manufacturer, mainly producing luxury travel goods as well as premium shoes, handbags, knitwear, and silk goods for upper-class and wealthy Italians.

During World War II, constraints forced the label to use cotton instead of leather. It was during this time that the fashion brand introduced its now iconic “GG” monogram in reference to the initials of Guccio Gucci. The logo is one way to represent Gucci in a visually timeless style.

The company also introduced the Gucci stripe, consisting of two green stripes interrupted by a single red bar that is seen on many of the brand’s wardrobe essentials and other products.

Starting in the 1950s, Gucci’s success skyrocketed as celebrities were spotted wearing the luxurious brand and carrying the Gucci bag. In the 1960s, the brand introduced accessories including watches, jewelry, and eyewear which have since become a cornerstone of the fashion house.

In 1990, American designer Tom Ford was instated as the brand’s ready-to-wear designer before being promoted to Creative Director several years later. Ford has been credited with restoring the Gucci brand’s reputation, streamlining the products, and reinstating the extravagance and opulence that had previously defined the label.

American queen of pop Madonna wore a Gucci outfit from its Fall collection in 1995, giving Ford his first major red carpet moment. Other Ford creations were worn at the red carpet by famous actresses Nicole Kidman, Gwyneth Paltrow, Charlize Theron, and others.

After Ford’s departure in the early 2000s, young Italian fashion designer Frida Giannini initially took over as head of the handbags and accessories line. She was given full creative control of the Gucci brand several years later.

In 2015, the brand made a surprise announcement that Alessandro Michele would be taking over as Creative Director. Michele had been working for Gucci for 12 years in various roles but was relatively unknown as a designer.

His unique style and penchant for theatrics and kitschy pageantry are keeping the brand at the forefront of people’s minds when it comes to high-end leather goods, ready-to-wear clothing, and accessories like watches and jewelry.

One Over the Other?

Both Louis Vuitton and Gucci have opened stores across the globe, from New York and Los Angeles in the US down to major cities in Australia.

There is no need to choose one luxury fashion brand over the other. Louis Vuitton and Gucci both have classic investment pieces as well as collaborative collective pieces that will continue to boost brand valuation over the coming years. Both brands have their own distinct and timeless style, so pick whatever appeals to you. You can’t go wrong.

Bootcut Jeans vs. Straight Jeans: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/bootcut-jeans-vs-straight-jeans/ Sun, 26 Dec 2021 18:00:40 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=264024 …]]> Shopping for jeans and deciding on the perfect pair (or two or three) can sometimes be overwhelming. The cut, style, fit, wash, and cost varies from brand to brand; however, once you find the perfect pair, they will become your go-to styling item.

Fit, Style, and Wash

Bootcut Jeans vs Straight Jeans Fit, Style, and Wash

As fashion has changed and evolved over the years, so have jeans. They were originally invented for the working man when Levi Strauss and Jacob Davis secured patent number 139,121 on the process of riveting pants on May 20, 1873. Since then, you will be hard-pressed to find someone who does not own at least one pair of jeans, let alone multiple pairs in different fits, styles, and washes.

All jeans can come in multiple fits with the most popular ones being regular or relaxed. The fit refers to the amount of room that there is for the leg hole. The style or cut of jeans refers to how the denim fits on your legs down to your ankles. The most common cuts and styles of jeans are slim, skinny, straight, and bootcut.

Last but not least, you must also consider the wash, which refers to the texture and color of your chosen jeans. Some of the most popular washes are indigo, chambray, and acid. Some wash options can include fading, which typically happens around the knees and thighs for a worn-in look. Buyer beware: a lot of brands have their own names for washes and even for fits and styles.

What’s the Difference Between Straight Cut and Bootcut Jeans?

Difference Between Straight Cut and Bootcut Jeans

Straight cut and bootcut are the two best-selling styles of jeans globally. The difference between these two styles of denim is in how they are cut. Straight cut jeans are cut just like how the name sounds – the cut of the leg stays the same from the waist all the way to the ankle. They are designed to give the illusion of a longer leg.

In contrast, bootcut jeans are tapered and fitted snugly from the waist to the thighs and then the fabric on the legs begins to widen and loosen up slowly through to the ankle. This style of jeans can give the illusion of a shorter leg.

Straight Cut Jeans

Straight Cut Jeans

A straight cut jean is one of the original, and oldest, styles of jeans. The straight cut is designed so that the fabric is straight all the way from the waist to the bottom of the ankle. This jean’s style was originally designed for workers and was cut to resemble the pants of overalls, which were both practical and comfortable.

These jeans have remained in style for years and work with both casual and more dressy outfit choices. These jeans work with all styles of footwear including sneakers and dress shoes.

Want to own a pair but don’t know where to start? Citizens of Humanity Gage Classic straight jeans are a great way to tip your toe into the straight leg jean pool. The silhouette stays straight all the way down the leg with a little extra room making this a casual and relaxed fit.

Another pair to try is the Relaxed Straight Authentic Flex jeans from Madewell. These jeans are perfect for a weekend full of activities because they can be worn running errands, going to help your sister-in-law around the house, and then out to dinner with friends. They have a conservative silhouette and work on all body types.

Pair the medium wash jeans with a nicely steamed button down shirt and clean white low tops. Or, if you are going for the 90s look that all the kids are doing these days, opt for the light wash and pair it with an oversized t-shirt and Carhartt hoodie.

Bootcut Jeans

Bootcut Jeans

GQ

A bootcut jean mixes the style of a straight cut jean with a flared one and was heavily influenced by sailors trousers from the 1850s. They were originally popular among cowboys and ranchers because, you guessed it – the fit of the jean works well with a boot. No longer did the wearer have to worry about tucking their jeans into their boots or struggling with trying to fit tight jeans over the boot shaft. The loose fit below the knee helps with the ease of folding, rolling, and slipping boots on without a struggle.

In the 1960s and 70s, bootcut jeans experienced a resurgence due to hippies who wanted to be different and wear jeans that were considered unique. They inspired the wider, bell-bottomed jeans that became popular at the time.

These days, bootcut jeans tend to be worn by men looking for the cowboy touch. They are available in different colorways and washes and they can go with everything from t-shirts to Oxfords. Bootcut jeans tend to work best with… wait for it… boots!

From the classic brand Levi’s, the 527 Slim Bootcut Jeans are the perfect pair to get you started on your bootcut journey. Created originally for functionality, these jeans are now fashionable as well. The slim fit from Levi’s is a little snugger through the thigh and seat before becoming looser at the ankle. This particular fit works well with sneakers and chukka boots.

Keep the rest of the styling simple so you don’t head too much into a 70s moment, unless that’s what you are looking for, of course. If vintage is your thing, Acne Studios Relaxed Bootcut jeans are for you. Giving Dazed and Confused vibes, these super relaxed, loose-fitting jeans look great with t-shirts and bowler shirts alike and do not have to be worn with boots.

Straight vs Bootcut

Straight vs Bootcut mens jeans

So which style is better? It depends on what you are looking for. You can never go wrong with a standard straight leg cut that has remained in style for over a century. These jeans are versatile for all body types and work for most events except formal ones.

If you do happen to wear a lot of boots or just want to expand your fashion portfolio, try a pair of bootcut jeans. They work best for casual occasions.

Levi’s vs. Wrangler: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/levis-vs-wrangler/ Fri, 17 Dec 2021 18:00:45 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=262980 …]]> Levi’s and Wrangler jeans are as American as apple pie. Both brands embody what America is all about – ingenuity, tenacity, and grit. That being said, the Levi’s and Wrangler brands have different beginnings and appeal to a slightly different audience.

Levi’s

Levi’s denim

AJSTUDIO PHOTOGRAPHY/Shutterstock

From the beginning, Levi’s denim overalls were made for cowboys, lumberjacks, and the working class man. Today, Levi’s jeans are an American tradition known for their quality and array of styles.

The company got its start when Levi Strauss, a Bavarian immigrant, followed his brothers to New York where they had a dry goods export company. Levi saw how the West Coast market was growing and opened a branch in San Francisco. While in the city, Levi had a client, Jacob Davis, who wanted to go into business together. The business? Jeans reinforced with metal rivets to prevent the garment from falling apart.

Since Davis had originally purchased the denim fabric from Levi, joining forces seemed like the next natural step. Davis wrote to Levi to suggest that the two men hold the patent together. Levi saw the potential for this new product and agreed to Jacob’s proposal. The two men received patent #139,121 from the US Patent and Trademark Office and on May 20, 1873, and blue jeans were officially born.

Pants were not acceptable for women, and for a long time, Levi’s were only made for men. However, with World War I and the men going off to fight, the women stepped up and went to work, borrowing the men’s jeans. In 1918, Levi’s launched the Freedom-Alls, a one-piece cotton dress with balloon trousers. The brand launched their Lady Levi’s in 1934, the first-ever jeans made for female silhouettes.

Levi’s, and jeans in general, became a symbol of freedom and rebellion against the establishment and cultural norms. Levi’s are iconic in looks and in history, and the brand recognizes and understands how important it is for them to continue to guide their customers with style and innovation. They pride themselves on staying ahead of the curve. Each product shows acute attention to detail and quality.

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. That being said, counterfeiting is real and there have been many reports of fake Levi’s being sold. Checking the stitching, buttons, rivets, and tabs for the official Levi’s logo and L.S. & Co. stamps is the best way to know if they are the real deal.

Levi’s products come in a multitude of materials, colors, shapes, and sizes which means there is something for everyone. The price ranges from $45 – $70 for their popular and premium apparel. The custom cuts from their “Made and Crafted” line can cost up to $200.

Wrangler

Wrangler jeans

Nucha Palalay/Shutterstock

This American brand is part of Kontoor Brand Inc., the owner of Lee, and was founded by C.C. Hudson. He moved from Tennessee to North Carolina to work in a textile factory. When the plant shut down, Hudson bought some of the sewing machines and started his own business with his brother, called the Hudson Overall Company’ n the loft of a local grocery store.

In 1919, the business was doing well and they changed their name to the Blue Bell Overall Company and moved to a bigger headquarters. In 1943 the brand got even more fame and once again changed its name, this time to the iconic Wrangler.

In the 40s, Wrangler hired Rodeo Ben, a Polish tailor who had found fame working with rodeo stars and cowboys. In 1947, Wrangler designed the 13WMZ jeans that were designed with zippers, yet was made to be comfortable and durable while riding. World rodeo champion Jim Shoulders endorsed the jeans, making them synonymous with that world. Wrangler has also cemented their place in the world of NASCAR by sponsoring and dressing professional drivers including Dale Earnhardt as well as country music, by making Jason Aldean the spokesperson for the Wrangler Retro© collection.

Wrangler is also part of the Better Cotton Initiative, which is a partnership to make their production more sustainable. Cotton, the main material they use, stresses out the soil and wastes an immense amount of water. The brand’s plan for the future includes using 100% sustainable cotton and green energy by 2025 and reducing water by 50% by 2030.

The brand is already working on these goals and you can tell by the intense blue of their denim jeans. The jean industry uses chemical dyes made from petroleum which is not environmentally friendly. Wrangler is partnered up with Stoney Creek Colors, going back to the original roots and getting the blue pigment from plants instead.

Wrangler jeans are hardier and sturdier in nature, making them less soft than other denim brands, but they are rugged, durable, and made of a heavier twill that fades evenly, making the jeans look better for longer. They also include a double-stitched outer seam that adds to their durability. The only potential con might be the pockets on the back, which are generally higher up and closer to the yoke, which is a classic look, but not a trendy one.

That being said, Wranglers are not typically favored by those looking to keep up with the latest trends, but instead by people with different styles and tastes whose overall aesthetic is rooted in the American south and all that has to offer, such as country music, agriculture, and rodeos.

Which Is Better?

Difference between Levi’s and Wrangler

NP27/Shutterstock

There are many similarities between the two brands, including their five-pocket, riveted, and double-stitched designs. Both brands boast sustainability, comfort, durability, and wearability.

The main difference between Levi’s and Wrangler is their styling: Wranglers tend to favor more of a working aesthetic, while Levi’s are known for their fashionable and tailored fit. Levi’s will always be associated with free will and going against the establishment. The brand has a wider array of options and costs a little more than the average cost of a pair of Wranglers.

Wranglers are made for the working man and their flared lines and signature blue tint make them stand out above the crowd. You can wear sneakers with your Wranglers but boots (especially of the cowboy variety) feel the most natural.

So which brand is better? That depends on you and your personal style. But don’t worry, both brands are made from the utmost care and quality so neither choice is wrong. Go forth with confidence!

Derby shoes are the perfect go-to dress shoe for any suit because they can seamlessly work with a wide array of suits from casual to more formal. Dark brown and black leather derby shoes with minimal brogue detailing look best with more formal suiting while casual suits look better with a heavier brogue pattern and suede fabrications.

You can either go with an entire vintage look or just vintage derby shoes. The choice is yours (feels good to be in charge, eh?). The more worn-in the leather is, the more vintage your derbys will look.

Conclusion

Derby shoes can be dressed up or dressed down, but however, you choose to style them, make sure they fit properly. Wearing an ill-fitting shoe can take away from the stylish look you are trying to put forward.

They should fit securely across the arch with no slippage in the heel when walking. The fit across the ball of your foot will soften and stretch over time, so upon purchase, ensure the fit across that area is firm. Also, you do not want your toes to touch the end of the toe-end of your shoe. A thumb-width is ideal but can vary with each style.

How To Wear a Turtleneck: 52 Winter Style Inspirations https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/how-to-wear-a-turtleneck/ Sat, 11 Dec 2021 20:00:47 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=256449 …]]> As the cooler weather continues to roll in, it is time to start bringing some of your winter wardrobe to the forefront of your mind and your closet. Obviously, your winter coats are helpful in regulating your body temperature when you are outside, but what about keeping warm inside as well?

Thicker clothing and extra layers, such as sweaters, vests, and turtlenecks manufactured in warmer fabrics such as wool, corduroy, and cashmere are essential to keeping you toasty and stylish as you navigate through these next few months.

Keeping a neutral color palette with your wardrobe, such as black jeans, a black turtleneck, and black leather oxfords, and then throwing on a gray peacoat or trench can keep your look simple, yet classic and elegant. However, taking this exact look and pairing it with some Jordans or Timberlands shows that you still have streetwear sensibilities.

If you tend to rock your own form of suiting with ankle pants, a blazer or bomber, and a button up shirt, simply switching out your shirt for a turtleneck not only keeps you warm but also elevates your style. Not everyone can pull off a turtleneck, but I’m telling you, you just did. And you did it well.

Typically, if it’s cold enough for a turtleneck, it’s probably cold enough for a coat as well. A short puffer works for when it’s chilly enough to see your breath. Wearing a wool trench or peacoat might not be as warm, but when worn with tailored pants (extra points for a pattern) and a merino wool turtleneck, your snazzy style will warm you up and will have you turning heads as you quickly get down the street to where you are going. Now hurry up and get inside where it’s warm!

The secret to dressing for winter is a simple one: wear clothes that keep you warm. Genius. A turtleneck is a great start. Choose one constructed from a slightly thicker and warmer material, add pants, and a warm jacket. Viola!

If ankle pants are your thing, even in cold weather, hopefully, the warmth from the rest of your body keeps your ankles warm, but if not, a pair of Dr. Martens or Thursday Morning boots should keep your feet warm and dry and you slosh through the wet, winter snow on your way to work, meetings, drinks, dinner, or running errands.

New Balance 515 vs. New Balance 574: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/new-balance-515-vs-574/ Wed, 08 Dec 2021 22:00:52 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=262245 …]]> The story of New Balance and the company’s humble beginnings is an unconventional one. As William J. Riley surveyed the chickens running around the backyard of his Boston home, he became interested in their feet. He noticed that their feet seemed to be perfectly balanced. He noted this balance to the three-point anatomy of the chicken’s foot.

When designing footwear, the industry tends to focus on vertical design, which means starting with the top and working down to the sole. The chickens inspired Riley to start with the underfoot and work his way up. This resulted in the Trackster model, a shoe that was the first to feature the ripple sole design that is more popular today.

The Trackster, the company’s first piece of footwear, also allowed customers to customize their fit by choosing different widths. This was another first in the world of running shoes. Thus, the New Balance Arch Support Company was born. Since its inception, the company has had a number of sneaker styles, but perhaps two of the most popular are the 515 and the 574.

515

New Balance 515

Part of the New Balance Classic collection, the 515 is a low top running kick. It is a vintage-inspired silhouette with a low profile with contemporary elements. Although intended to be marketed and sold as a lifestyle sneaker, the 515 works great for wearing during your daily routine and errands as well as for low-impact athletic activities. This shoe has been described as having superb comfort and, to quote one reviewer, is like “walking on a cloud.”

The Achilles heel and collar entrance are padded for extra comfort while the outsole consists of a durable rubber that supplies stability and grip. It also has a wide toe box that allows the wearer to use an orthopedic footbed insert for additional support if needed. The NB 515 has some of the brighter colorways in the New Balance collection.

A multi-colored EVA midsole is located at the bottom along with a removable EVA insert providing cushioning and comfort. It is also important to note that this particular shoe provides ample arch support which is great news for those who suffer from plantar fasciitis. The shoe uppers are made of different materials like mesh, suede, nubuck, leather, and nylon. The best part? They typically retail for around $70 so you can own as many pairs in as many colorways as your heart desires.

574

New Balance 574

For New Balance sneakers, generally speaking, the higher the model number, the more technical the shoe is. The lower the number is, the shoes become more lifestyle based. Between the original Trackster and the 574 came eight other models – the 320, 420, 576, 620, 670, 990, and 1300. New Balance had a reputation for having innovative sneakers with a hefty price tag, so in 1988, the company introduced the NB 574, the company’s version of a lifestyle shoe that was originally introduced as an economy runner, best for pedestrian situations and light workouts, at a lower price point.

The classic silhouette of the 574 includes ENCAP cushioning which is known for its shock absorption quality and durability. The lightweight EVA foam cushioning in the arch and heel helps the sneaker mold to your feet as you wear them. They are also available in three different widths.

Like the 515, this sneaker is also known for its colorway options. Previous New Balance sneakers were lacking a certain aesthetic. Besides the New Balance 574 Grey, this shoe has so many options of colors and patterns, which really helped up the ante in cementing New Balance as a fashion sneaker. This signaled a shift in how New Balance would continue to approach the footwear industry. The brand nailed the technical aspect, and now the 574 was nailing the style aspect as well.

New Balance broadened its reach in the world of sneakers with the 574. The big “N” logo, suede side, panels, new color palette, and lower price point made the brand more accessible. Ranging from $44.99 to $79.99, the 574 remains the brand’s best-selling model. With an ever-growing list of collaborators and being seen on the feet of Biz Markie, Jennifer Lopez, and Haily Beiber (to name a few) it is obvious this shoe is here to stay.

How To Shop for the Right Pair of New Balance Sneakers

Even though New Balance sneakers may have a reputation as a “dad sneaker,” honestly, that just makes them that much cooler. Dad jokes, dad hats, and dad bods are all the rage so why not sneakers too? But with so many options to choose from (colorways aside) how do you know which pair is going to be best for you? Here is a handy dandy guide, straight from the New Balance crew themselves:

What do you want the shoes for? What is their purpose? Exercise, all-day comfort, walking, running, or purely just for style? Whatever the reason, our feet need constant protection and comfort so getting the shoe with the proper foundation for your daily needs is important.

Cushioning and padding is a very personal decision. Some people want to feel as though they are walking on a cloud with more padding, while others may prefer a more natural feel and want to feel the road underneath them. While the padding is there to protect your tendons, joints, and tissues by reducing impact, the amount of cushioning varies for a reason. A lightweight shoe might have less padding but that makes them better for running races or faster workouts. More cushioning is essential for everyday running and workouts to better absorb the repetitive impact.

Keep an eye on the material of the sneaker. This will not only determine the lifespan of the shoe, but also the level of comfort, breathability, and how much flex your foot will have. The sole of a shoe will always experience the most wear and tear. A harder rubber sole with a flatter outsole will last longer than one made of a softer rubber.

Last, but not least, consider the style of the shoe. You may care about colors and patterns or that might be the least of your concerns. Maybe you’re into more of a vintage and retro vibe or you want the latest and greatest modern design. Whatever your decision, New Balance has at least one sneaker for you.

Marshalls vs. TJ Maxx: Everything You Need To Know https://nextluxury.com/mens-style-and-fashion/marshalls-vs-tj-maxx-everything-you-need-to-know/ Thu, 02 Dec 2021 22:00:15 +0000 https://nextluxury.com/?p=261125 …]]> If you have ever been to a Marshalls or TJ Maxx then you are probably well aware that by the time you get to the checkout, your cart contains a pair of adidas sneakers, multiple three-wick candles, oversized bath towels, and some sort of fruit-shaped bag of gummies. None of these items are needed, but somehow upon seeing each dramatically discounted item, became immediately necessary to own.

No judgment on what you choose to purchase as you aimlessly wander the aisles, but the real question becomes how identical are these two stores? From the layout to the merchandise to the discounts, what sets the stores apart?

We definitely have the answer, but first, a little history. In 1956, Marshalls opened their doors for the first time. Alfred Marshall gathered a group of like-minded businessmen together to open a “Brands for Less” concept and by 1993, the brand had stores in 42 states including Hawaii.

TJX, a Massachusetts-based company, launched its first store, TJ Maxx, in 1977. In 1995, TJ Maxx bought out Marshalls, which was their largest competitor. TJX also owns HomeGoods, Homesense, and Sierra. Although the buyers for both Marshalls and TJ Maxx are the same, the stores carry different merchandise and have different in-store layouts.

Marshalls

Marshalls differentiates itself from T.J. Maxx with a full line of family footwear and an expanded men’s department. They also feature The CUBE, a department specifically for juniors. In fact, Marshalls’ inventory of shoes, particularly men’s athletic designer brands, like Nike Jordans, is so great that this store is where “shoe flippers” usually go to score discounts, then resell their goods on eBay, Poshmark, or Mercari for a tidy profit.

 • Shoe MegaShop – Offers thousands of this season’s shoes for the entire family with new styles arriving multiple times a week. They arrange them by style with specific sizes found under each display.
 • Men’s Department – Contains a wide selection of men’s suits, sportcoats, and the latest trends.
 • The Cube – A junior’s department that is like a boutique within the store. It’s perfect for young women who are looking for trendy, yet sophisticated styles. The Cube features items from all departments in the store arranged by style rather than size and fancies itself a one-stop shop.

T.J. Maxx

T.J. Maxx, meanwhile, is where you will find fashionistas, who refer to themselves as #maxxonistas. TJ Maxx is more well-known for designer jewelry and in some locations, The Runway at Maxx, a high-end designer section. Celebrities including Taylor Swift, Sia, Britney Spears, and Prince Harry have been spotted shopping among the discounter’s aisles.

 • Women’s Shoes Only – With a specialization in women’s shoes, there’s something for every woman and every occasion.
 • Expanded Accessories Department – Includes fine jewelry such as 14-kt. gold, sterling silver, and semiprecious stones as well as sunglasses and watches.
 • The Runway – High-end designer accessories and fashions at T.J. Maxx prices, including Versace, Gucci, Coach, and many more.

Do Lower Prices Mean Lower Quality?

T.J.-Maxx-product-quality

2p2play/Shutterstock

Not at all. Less than 5% of the clothing sold at either of these stores is considered a “second-rate” item. In fact, if the clothing has any sort of defect, the item will be clearly labeled as such. This way, you can rest assured that the quality of the products overall compares to the same products that you find in department stores.

So, how are they able to offer such great discounts? I’m glad you asked. Here are a few of the ways that the TJX family of retail stores are able to offer you consistent discounts of 30-50% off retail costs:

 • Buyers are able to buy items constantly and at the last minute. This means they are able to restock stores with 10,000 new items every week, while most major department stores place their orders five to six months in advance. These last-minute purchases allow the buyers to come in a month before the new season and make a deal with major manufacturers.
 • Buyers for the TJX brand take advantage of misorders. For example, if a manufacturer accidentally used silver buttons on a designer jacket instead of the requested bronze buttons, it is still a designer jacket and nothing is wrong with the quality of workmanship. It just wasn’t made to the exact specifications of the designer. Buyers swoop in and place offers at a discounted rate.
 • Marshalls and TJ Maxx do not advertise the name-brands which means they do not have to pay for these advertising costs.
 • The open store floor plan cuts the cost of merchandising.

Items To Avoid

Eric Glenn / Shutterstock.com

Because of the way they source their inventory, Marshalls and TJ Maxx are great places to score amazing deals. But they can also live up to the old adage that “if something is too good to be true, it probably is.” Here are a few things the internet thinks even the most hardline bargain-shoppers should give a hard pass to.

Cosmetics and Hair Products

Because it’s an off-price retailer, both stores pick up all of their inventory that higher-priced stores don’t want or that they can’t sell. Some of these items include last year’s makeup and cosmetics lines. But perhaps the biggest risk to purchasing cosmetic and hair care products at either store is that you run the risk of buying something that’s been tampered with or even used by someone else as a sample.

Furniture and Bedsheets

While Marshalls, TJ Maxx, and HomeGoods do carry furniture, bedding, and kitchen supplies, these are bargains you’re also better off buying elsewhere. Most of the furniture you’ll find at these stores are either overstocks or failed factory inspection rejects and as a result, they’re often in far-from-perfect condition.

They also carry sheets and bedding in a variety of colors and designs, but you’re also better off giving these items a miss as well. Cheap sheets are made with inferior fabrics that don’t last, so you’re better off spending a bit more for bedding that lasts longer and feels better.

Appliances and Kitchen Supplies

According to the internet, which never lies, you shouldn’t give the appliances and kitchen supplies a second look either. While not all the kitchen items in the stores are flimsy and liable to break, their most inexpensive items are known for not lasting. The same advice applies to kitchen appliances made by unknown brands, which can break down when you least expect it.

Yoga Mats

If you thought yoga mats would be the same everywhere, you thought wrong. There are multiple websites dedicated to what you should and should not buy from the TJX family of stores and the yoga mats are a hard pass. The reason being that the thin material is slippery and does not hold up to extended use.

If you’re a dedicated yogi, you’re better off spending a few extra dollars on a good, better-known brand instead of trying to save a few bucks. In the long run, you could end up spending double because the mat you first bought as a bargain turned out to be terrible, and a second purchase is needed to replace the first.
