A Guide To 10 Brad Pitt Tattoos and What They Mean
1. “Absurdities de I’ Existence” Tattoo
Believed to be one of the first tattoos Brad Pitt ever got, “Absurdities de I’ Existence” is a French saying that translates to “Life is absurd.” The Seven actor got the ink in a small script on his left forearm that’s only viewable when he is wearing a short sleeve shirt.
2. The Ice Man Tattoo
Right near his “Absurdities de I’ Existence” tattoo, Pitt got the outline of Ötzi the Iceman tattooed. Also known as the Frozen Fritz, Ötzi the Iceman is the oldest mummy in the world, believed to have been alive sometime between 3350 and 3105 BC. His body was found in the Alps on the border of Austria and Italy in 1991 by two German tourists.
Pitt has never revealed why he got the tattoo but underneath the image of the Iceman he is the word “Invictus,” which means “unconquered,” so maybe he got the ink as a form of defiance that he will never be brought down by the negativity of others. Or maybe he’s just a history buff?
3. Skull and Rhinoceros Tattoos
These two tattoos are some of the newest ink Pitt got done. He revealed the outline of a human skull on his left leg and the outline of a rhinoceros head on his right leg while wearing a skirt at the Berlin premiere of Bullet Train in 2019.
4. Angelina Jolie’s Birthdate Tattoo
Everyone knows about the tumultuous relationship between Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. The two met on the set of Mr. & Mrs. Smith when Pitt was married to Jennifer Aniston. Sparks flew between the pair and Pitt soon divorced Anitsion and hooked up with Jolie, with the two eventually becoming husband and wife and having six together, three adopted and three naturally conceived.
But like so many Hollywood romances, it all ended in tears when the two divorced in 2019. But before that happened Pitt got Jolie’s birthday tattooed on his lower abdomen.
Pitt got Jolie’s birthday, June 4, 1975, inked as numbers (6/4/75) in Khmer, the native language of Cambodia, which is the homeland of Jolie’s first child, Maddox. He no longer has this tattoo, getting it lasered off once the two broke up.
5. Family Initials Tattoo
Before his home life when tits up, Pitt got this tattoo as a tribute to his brood. He has a long vertical line along his forearm that is intersected by a horizontal line just under his wrist, forming a cross. To the left side of this is the letter “A” representing Angelina Jolie, and to the right are the first letters of his six children: “M” for Maddox, “P” for Pax, “Z” for Zahara, “S” for Shiloh, “K” for Knox and “V” for Vivienne.

6. “Alpha” and “Omega” Tattoos
Covering up the area where he once had Jolie’s birthdate tattooed, Pitt has the words “Alpha” and “Omega” written on his lower torso. These two words are the first and last words of the Greek alphabet.
7. Rumi Tattoo
This short poem is etched onto the skin on Pitt’s right forearm. Written in ancient script, the tattoo is the English translation of a text by Jalal al-Din Mohammad ibn Balkhi, otherwise known as the famous Turkish wordsmith Rumi. It reads: “There exists a field, beyond all notions of right and wrong. I will meet you there.” How romantic.
8. Angelina Scribble Tattoo
Another reminder of his time with Jolie is this tattoo on Pitt’s back. At first thought to be a map of New Orleans, this turned out to be the wrong conclusion. While it looks like a bunch of random lines drawn on the Interview With a Vampire’s back, they were actually designed by Jolie, which is why Pitt had them inked on his body.
9. Motorbike Tattoo
A known lover of motorbikes, Pitt decided to show his passion for two-wheeled machines by getting one tattooed on his left arm. The design is of a motorcycle from the front with a fat tire.
10. Silhouette Tattoo
