John Cena’s Peacemaker is Still a Dick in First Trailer for HBO Max Series
One of the highlights of James Gunn’s revamped The Suicide Squad is John Cena’s Peacemaker. The all-American hero who wears a toilet seat on his head (otherwise known as a “beacon of freedom”) believes in achieving peace at all costs, even if that means killing innocent civilians. The egotistical and self-righteous superhero is an absolute dick and memorably played by former wrestler Cena, and I for one can’t wait to see him on the small screen.
Although we have to wait until January for the show to hit HBO Max, a trailer is now available, showcasing just how much of a douchebag Peacemaker really is.
As you can see from the trailer, this one has a solid mix of comedy and violence. Cena is in great form – be it acting like a bro while shooting guns or dancing around in his jocks to Wim Wamand’s Do Ya Wanna Taste It. Although Peacemaker is oblivious to the fact that he’s an egotistical idiot, the series looks like it will attempt to make the audience empathize with him.
Set after the events of The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker finds Cena’s anti-hero assigned a new mission with Steve Agee and Jennifer Holland reprising their roles from The Suidice Squad as John Economos and Emilia Harcourt, Peacemaker’s handlers. The trio is also joined by Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo, another agent tasked with assisting Peacemaker, Chukwudi Iwuji, as Clemson Murn, the head of the Peacemaker team, and Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, aka Vigilante, another costumed superhero who enjoys killing as much as Peacemaker. The show also features the great Robert Patrick as Peacemaker’s father, Auggie Smith.

Commenting on the series last month, James Gunn said, “Peacemaker is an opportunity to delve into current world issues through the lens of this superhero/supervillain/and world’s biggest douchebag. I’m excited to expand The Suicide Squad and bring this character from the DC film universe to the full breadth of a series. And of course, to be able to work again with John, Peter, and my friends at Warner Bros. is the icing on the cake.”
Cena is also hyped, adding, “I have said before that it has been a tremendous honor and an incredible opportunity to be part of The Suicide Squad and to work with James on what is going to be a fantastic movie. I am unbelievably excited to have the chance to team up with him again for Peacemaker. We can’t wait for fans to see this.”
Gunn is heavily involved in the series, writing all eight episodes and directing five, including the series premiere that takes place on January 13 on HBO Max.
